Survivor Arts Installation
“Not an Invitation” a Survivor Arts Installation
Members of the Creative Writing Club write a one paragraph story or a poem to accompany a representation of the outfit they were wearing when they were sexually harassed. Other members of the college community, including students, staff, and faculty would also be invited to participate. Approximately 25 participants would be selected. The clothing would not of course have to be the exact clothing the victims/writers were wearing but would be an approximation. Clothing and text pairs could be installed in various buildings on campus or could be consolidated into one or two buildings.
One of the points of the installation is to undermine the notion that women are harassed because of their clothing choices and that women who wear certain clothes are inviting harassment.

In solidarity with the #MeToo and #RiseUp movements, the Creative Writing Club is hosting writing workshops for those who have experienced sexual assault or harassment and their allies. We welcome all people, whether you’ve had a personal experience, or have a friend or family member who’s dealt with this. We’re an open, safe community to support, share, and help each other while enjoying each other’s company. Everyone with an open mind is encouraged to join, including LGBTQI+, PoC, and differently-abled communities.
