RAGAMALA MUSIC AND DANCE THEATER in
Sva (Vital Force) with Wadaiko Taiko Drummers
Saturday, February 14 // 8:00 pm
|
|
Infuse romance with the exotic, as East meets East, with authentic Indian dancing (performed by the Ragamala dancers) and Japanese Taiko drumming. Six dancers and four drummers embody the rhythm and flow of life. The primordial sounds unite the sacred and profane, creating a life force of love and joy that is stunning and exotic! In this signature work, Sva, brings the thundering percussion and physicality of Taiko drumming into conversation with the complex rhythmic structures of Bharatanatyam dance.
(This tour of Ragamala Music and Dance Theater is made possible by a grant from Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts Regional Touring program.)
(Funded in part by the National Dance Project of the New England Foundation for the Arts, with lead funding from Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. Additional funding provided by The Ford Foundation, The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, JP Morgan Chase Foundation and MetLife Foundation.)
