Healthy Yards Program 2023 Lady Bird Johnson Environmental Award
The Healthy Yards program educates and motivates people to care for their properties using sustainable methods. Launched in 2018 as part of Bedford 2030’s Water and Land Use Task Force, the program has created a robust library of resources to teach best management practices in back yards and larger landscapes and already reaches 80,000 social media followers. Healthy Yards works collaboratively with many organizations and municipalities in Westchester and nearby counties to positively impact the ecology and biodiversity of the region, including managing the popular Leave Leaves Alone project.
Rosedale Nurseries, Inc. 2023 Acorn Award
Rosedale Nurseries in Hawthorne, New York, has been providing quality plants and landscape services to the community since 1898. For 95 of those years, Rosedale has been operated by three generations of the Taylor family, currently Dan Taylor. The nursery is a favorite destination of home gardeners and professional landscapers alike for its exceptional inventory and expertise. It offers a large selection of native plants year-round, provides Native Plant Center members a discount on retail items, and hosts an annual pre-fall Native Plant Weekend benefit.
