Digital Film Festival

Westchester Community College will host its third annual Student Film Festival on Wednesday, March 26 from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. in the Gateway Center’s Davis Auditorium on the Valhalla campus. The juried festival will include awards in the following categories: Best Short Fiction Film, Best Long Fiction Film, Best Documentary, Best Alumni Film, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Sound, and Best Performances.

This year, students submitted more than 45 films for consideration. The 18 films selected as finalists will be screened at the festival. This year’s panel of judges consists of Brandy Burre (actress, The Wire), Gina Duncan (Jacob Burns Film Center), and Andrew Jupin (Jacob Burns Film Center).

Many of the entrants are majoring in Digital Filmmaking at the college. One of the college’s newest academic programs, this major helps students acquire a solid basis in cinema history and theory, film aesthetics, screenwriting, camera operation, lighting, digital editing, and digital effects. In addition to these core courses, students may choose from a wide range of electives, including courses in acting, stagecraft, animation, and sound design. Production and postproduction courses are taught by practicing film professionals on state-of-the-art equipment. An optional internship offers students the opportunity to gain valuable experience working in the industry.

The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served at the festival.
