Peekskill Extension Center
This exhibition celebrates the broad spectrum of digital art making that has been exhibited at The Westchester Gallery at the Center for The Digital Arts at Westchester Community College. This show will feature artists from our first 10 years of exhibitions 1994 – 2004. In 1994 Westchester Community College opened the Center for the Digital Arts, as part of the Peekskill Extension Center. This facility and its gallery space have focused on exhibiting digital art in its myriad forms. Artists who use computers in the process of creating their artworks have been highlighted in one-person shows in the ground floor gallery space.
Computer Art was once specialized category of art making where artists and programmers labored to create artworks from computer based instructions. Now digital tools are ubiquitous in contemporary art. From digital photography, web based projects, interactive installations, to wearable art; artists of all stripes have embraced computer art as a significant tool in their studio practices. Social media tools, interactive sensors and digital projectors have become a key part of many art projects.
