The Fashion Merchandising AAS Degree At Westchester Community College Is A Two Year Intensive Course Of Study That Offers The Best Experience

For The Most Motivated Fashion Student!

THE PROGRAM OF STUDY:
The course curriculum is designed to stimulate, encourage and inspire young minds through the study of contemporary fashion and textile merchandising. Fashion Merchandising is the planning, procurement and styling aspects of the fashion business. The Fashion Merchandising major combines courses in fashion with those in business and advertising to develop students for careers as retail buyers or managers, merchandisers for apparel manufacturers and much more.

Special program features include:

  • Specialty courses in such areas as Fashion Technology, Visual Merchandising and Textiles with real world projects to showcase your talents.

  • Opportunities to give back to the community with fund-raising events and shopping parties for charity.

  • Visits and guest speakers from the many resources of New York's Fashion world and cultural centers including field trips to trade shows, museums, designers, and showrooms.

  • The Fashion Internships allow students to incorporate what they have learned in the classroom with what they experience in the workplace.

THE TYPICAL STUDENT
The Fashion Merchandising student at Westchester Community College has a unique combination of creative and business interests. Studying all aspects of the Fashion industry, a fashion merchandising course of study combines a specialized education in Fashion with a solid background in Marketing and Management.

GRADUATES OF THE PROGRAM

  • Upon completion of the Fashion Merchandising major, students can choose to continue their education and transfer to the leading colleges specializing in these programs such is Fashion Institute of Technology, .Laboratory Institute of Merchandising, Berkeley College, Marist College, Cornell University’s Human Ecology department, and many other leading institution. Former graduates of the program have gone on to jobs at Ralph Lauren, Stella McCartney and Paul Smith.

  • For those more career oriented students, the AAS in Fashion Merchandising prepares you for immediate entry into the job market in such jobs as fashion entrepreneur, junior textile merchandiser, store manager and many others.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES
 
The DECA Fashion club is an excellent opportunity to meet other fashionista students and plan exciting fashion events that give back to the college. 

THE FUTURE OF FASHION AT WESTCHESTER COMMUNITY COLLEGE

  •  A new fashion design program is underway with the very first fashion design course scheduled to begin in Fall 2010.
  • The new Gateway building, opening in fall 2010 will house a high tech Fashion Classroom Lab aimed to educate the innovative talent within the fashion industries and encourage young and aspiring designers to take the fashion industry to a new height and lead the way to the future.
