Career Training for Mature Adults
Mainstream, the Institute for Mature Adults, offers two training options
designed for mature adults who are looking for work, switching fields or
getting back into the job market and need to obtain or increase their
computer skills.
Perkins Training Program
A 75-hour course over 5 weeks that provides 15 hours of job search
training and 60 hours of computer training. The computer training includes
the basics of MS Word and Windows with an overview of Excel, Internet and
email. There is also keyboarding practice built into the program. This
program is especially for mature adults who need to gain or increase their
computer skills. Applicants who are accepted into this program must
attend an orientation session. This program is sponsored by the Carl D.
Perkins Vocational Training Act.
Operation Talent Bank
A 45-hour course over 3 weeks that provides 15 hours of job search
training and 30 hours of computer training. The computer training includes
the basics of MS Word and Windows and an overview of PowerPoint, Excel,
Internet and email. This program is designed for mature adults who need to
improve their computer skills with an emphasis on issues affecting women
re-entering the workforce. This program is sponsored by the Westchester
County Office for Women.
