The Institute for Mature Adults

Mainstream is an innovator in exciting educational programming and career change options designed for mature adults over 50. These affordable courses are tailored to meet the needs of mature adults. Thinking about starting or completing your Associate Degree? Westchester Community College offers an exciting opportunity designed for adults 50 or older who want to return to school after a long break, or who want to start college for the first time. Start by taking one or two courses with your peers, or complete your associate degree online. Learn in a supportive environment that will give you the skills and confidence to help make your transition a success. The Center for the Mature Worker
The Center for the Mature Worker assists adults 50 or older who are looking to change careers, upgrade their skills, or start their own businesses. Courses are designed to help participants gain the skills needed to successfully compete in today’s job market.

Small Business Training Designed for Mature Adults
Have you always thought of starting your own business or do you currently have a home business that you’d like to expand? Whether you are new to the business world or have prior experience, this training program will prepare you for success as an entrepreneur and will help you to develop and refine your plan, manage cash flow and operations, with a focus on issues of concern to mature entrepreneurs. Health Information Technology
Westchester Community College, in partnership with Tidewater Community College, is offering a 6-month, non-credit training program designed to meet the nation’s emerging need for health information technology professionals. Participants must have a background in healthcare or information technology to qualify. Nurse Leadership Training
Designed to train experienced nurses in the essential knowledge and skills needed to become an effective leader in a healthcare setting; topics include communication skills, identifying leadership roles, conflict resolution, team building, and decision making. Includes clinical practice sample exercises. This 21-hour, 7-week program is offered during the day by Mainstream and the Nursing Department and provides 20.75 contact hours. Operation Talent Bank: Job Search Skills
Designed for mature adults who are actively looking for work. Offers job search training including resume writing and interviewing skills with an option for additional computer training on the basics of PowerPoint, Excel and how to use the Internet to find a job (sponsored by the Women’s Research and Education Fund in partnership with the Westchester County Office for Women). Perkins Tax Return Preparer Training
A 75-hour course over 7 weeks that provides 15 hours of job search training and 60 hours of training on becoming a registered tax return preparer. This program will help prepare students for the mandatory IRS Registered Tax Return Preparer Competency Exam and is designed for mature adults 50+ who are actively looking for work and have computer experience. COLLEGIUM for Lifelong Learning

COLLEGIUM for Lifelong Learning is a membership organization created in 2004 to combine serious study and social exchange. Each COLLEGIUM semester features a different array of courses in the arts and sciences, all led by exceptional volunteers. Some leaders are veterans of the classroom, and some are professionals sharing their expertise for the first time. Participants are encouraged to engage in classroom discussion, and the schedule allows for informal discussion between sessions and during breaks.
