Dr Eileen Shea is a Professor of speech and communication at Westchester Community College since 1969, and has been an active Communications Consultant for several decades. In 1982, she was instrumental in establishing an Associate of Arts Degree at Westchester Community College in Communications and Media Arts, earned a doctorate degree in Communication Education in 1986 from Teachers College, Columbia University, initiated with
colleagues while she was a member of the English Department, the creation of a separate academic department in 1990 which she now chairs, and has served as Vice President of the Faculty Senate from 1988 - 1998.
She is the recipient of several awards. In 1991, she received the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching, was awarded the Westchester Community College Foundation Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1999, and in 2005, was selected for the Frederick Sessions Beebe Chair in Communications.
Over the past thirty-five years, she has presented workshops and seminars in the field of communication at annual conferences, assumed leadership roles in several professional associations, and has taught communications courses for corporate and local community organizations. As Chairperson, she is actively involved in program review, long-range and strategic planning, course development, and administrative initiatives for a department which includes speech, broadcasting, media and
journalism. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Communication Arts from Marymount Manhattan College and a Masters in Speech and Theatre from Hunter College.
Dr. Shea is married and the mother of five children.
