Carol Smith Passariello

Carol Smith Passariello joined the Communications and Media Arts Department as an assistant professor in 2004 and teaches courses in journalism and media arts. She launched the inaugural course in broadcast journalism and continues the tradition of excellence in the department’s long-established offerings in newspaper production, understanding mass media and understanding mass media honors. During her first year with the department she also served as assistant faculty adviser to award-winning Viking News. After graduating with a master’s degree in journalism from the Ohio State University’s distinguished Graduate School of Journalism, she taught journalism and English courses while holding the position of Coordinator of Public Relations for Academic Affairs at her alma mater, LeMoyne-Owen College in Memphis, Tennessee where she also served as adviser to the student newspaper, the Magician. She has also taught courses as an adjunct professor of English at Marymount College, SUNY Old Westbury and Westchester Community College. Professor Passariello’s work has appeared in print and film including Role Call: A Generational Anthology of Social and Political Black Literature and Art, The Best Man (1999), Black Issues Book Review, The Tri-State Defender, The Commercial Appeal, and she edited and produced Sisterfriend Soul Journeys. A Westchester native, born in Sleepy Hollow, New York, Professor Passariello lives in Scarsdale with her husband Deano, daughter Indigo and their two cats, Paloma and Frida. Professor Passariello is faculty advisor to etc. magazine, www.etcwcc.net and lead advisor to the College's first DVD yearbook, The Valkyr.
