Prof Collis began his teaching career in 2001, teaching high school chemistry and biology in Queens, NY. After obtaining his Master’s degree, he was a lecture and lab instructor at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He then returned to New York in 2006 as an Instructor in the Biology Department of Westchester Community College.Besides teaching, Prof Collis is interested in environmental issues and took part in the Focus the Nation events to raise awareness of climate change. He is also the co-advisor for the WCC Medical Science Club and a member of the Student Personnel Policies Committee.Outside of school, Prof. Collis enjoys playing volleyball competitively, having done so for many years. He also especially enjoys traveling with his partner, William, and they have together visited 20+ countries. With their dog, Rufus, they currently live in an apartment in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan.

Previous Work: I began working at Westchester Community College in the spring of
1997, as an Adjunct Professor and became a full-time member of the Biology Department in the fall of 2006. Prior to becoming a full-time professor at WCC, I was the Biology Laboratory Manager, as well as, an Adjunct Professor at The College of New Rochelle.
Publications/ Presentations: I have given several presentations and have two publications regarding my graduate research, which involved using benthic macroinvertebrates to assess water quality in North Dakota lakes. Additionally, I have given numerous presentations regarding the human body to children, ages 3-9, in their respective public/private school classes.
Campus Involvement: I am a member of the Academics committee, General Education committee, Women’s History Month committee, and Collective for Sciences and Ideas reading group. Additionally, I am a regular attendee at campus events and am serving as a student mentor.

Prof. Priano has been a member of the Biology Department for over thirty years. He has been awarded the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development Excellence Award and the WCC Foundation Faculty Excellence Award for Teaching.Other than teaching, his professional interests include wetland ecology and protection and lake management. He has volunteered on numerous environmental committees in Westchester and Putnam Counties as well as his home town of Putnam Valley.Prof. Priano has been the faculty Advisor to the WCC Ecology Club since the mid-1970’s and continues to be involved with many efforts to make our campus a more environmentally friendly place.Mike and Lynn have been married since he returned from military duty in the Republic of Vietnam in 1970. They have two grown children and a grandchild. They enjoy spending time at the ocean, especially in Montauk, NY.
