2009-2010 Initiatives

  • Expand the National Blue Ribbon Panel with representatives from a variety of community colleges and professional associations and experts in the field of immigrant education.

  • Enhance the web for CCCIE in order to share content with community colleges and other association sites as appropriate.

  • Develop a speakers’ bureau comprised of Blue Ribbon Panelists and others that will present on the important role community colleges play in providing educational opportunities to immigrants at appropriate conferences and meetings; submit relevant articles and papers for publication.

  • Develop a compendium of selected community college best practices in immigrant education programming in such areas as: ESL/ESOL, workforce/career development, community outreach/partnership, undocumented students, and citizenship/civics preparation.

  • Provide technical assistance and peer mentoring to community colleges nationally.

  • Stimulate, promote and encourage research on educational services for immigrant populations.

  • Organize and convene a conference for Blue Ribbon Panelists, other interested persons and potential donors in the spring of 2010 to plan for sustaining and growing CCCIE over time.
