Education and Advocacy

In its first year, CCCIE elevated the issues related to immigrant education through conference presentations, publications, advocacy, and outreach. Now in its second year, CCCIE staff, founding college members, and Blue Ribbon Panelists are together raising national awareness of the leading role that community colleges play in providing educational opportunities for immigrants and are laying the foundation for sharing of promising practices and provision of technical assistance to community colleges across the country.

Through its strategic partnerships, CCCIE is influencing policy, as well as research. The American Association of Community Colleges, a Blue Ribbon Panel member, also serves as the lobbying group for community colleges on the federal level and their participation on the BRP allows CCCIE’s position to be heard in matters of policy and practice affecting immigrant students. CCCIE member institutions support the DREAM Act and are participating in the critical work of the Migration Policy Institute’s National Center on Immigrant Integration Policy.
