CHINS 101 |
Elementary Chinese (Mandarin) I |
4 humanities, modern language or elective credits |

Introductory course designed to provide intensive
audio-oral and character writing practice; study of basic grammar and
sentence-building skills, reading of simple texts, writing of simple
compositions, and viewing tapes of related topics. Class hrs. 4; Lab
hrs. 1. Prerequisite: No more than one year of high school Chinese.
Offered fall semester.

CHINS 102 |
Elementary Chinese II |
4 humanities, modern language or elective credits |
|
A continuation of Elementary Chinese I, this course
is designed to provide more basic sentence patterns and
communication-oriented vocabulary items. It improves students’ grammar
and sentence-writing skills as well as their ability to read longer
texts, and write more complex compositions. Class hrs. 4; Lab hrs. 1.
Prerequisite: Chinese 101, Elementary Chinese I. No more than three
years of high school Chinese. Offered spring semester.

This course offers students the opportunity to
learn and develop basic communication skills so that they can use their
Chinese correctly and intelligently in simple, real-life situations.
