Education for the Community
Westchester Community College is dedicated to meeting the educational needs of the community. Currently, Westchester Community College offers more than 50 programs leading to the associate degree. Approximately 70% of Westchester Community College courses are taught by full-time faculty. Frequently asked questions about attending Westchester Community College.

Associate in Arts Degree (a.a.) is awarded to candidates who successfully complete a major which parallels the first two years of liberal arts and sciences in accredited four-year institutions.

Associate in Science Degree (A.S.) is awarded to candidates who successfully complete a professionally-oriented curriculum which parallels the first two years of a four-year college or university.

Associate in Applied Science Degree (A.A.S.) is awarded to candidates who successfully complete a program combining specific career preparation with a firm foundation of course work in the liberal arts and sciences. Graduates who earn the a.a.s. degree are prepared to seek immediate employment. A variety of attractive positions are available within their specific technical fields. Increasingly, however, a.a.s. graduates are transferring to four-year institutions to continue study toward the bachelor's degree and beyond. The a.a.s. graduate who elects to transfer will find that most of the credits completed at Westchester Community College will be readily accepted for credit toward the baccalaureate degree at a receiving institution. (This is contingent, of course, upon the recommendation of the Westchester Community College faculty, the requirements of the transfer school, and the student's having maintained a satisfactory academic record.)

Certificate Programs
Westchester Community College's certificate programs prepare students for immediate employment in a variety of skilled occupations. One-year New York State Education Department-approved certificate programs provide a way for students to gain job skills for immediate employment or to prepare for career advancement by gaining new skills and credentials. College credits earned in Westchester Community College's certificate programs, for those who decide to continue their education.
