Program Description:
The Teaching Assistant certificate provides an opportunity
for teaching assistants and other individuals interested in childhood
education to begin their higher education in a gradual and supportive
manner and to meet the new state and/or federal requirements. For some
individuals, this will be the first step in a process for obtaining a
baccalaureate degree and teaching certification. Upon completion of this
proposed Certificate Program, students will:
-
Demonstrate knowledge of a range of issues in
the field of public education in grades K-12.
-
Have information regarding teacher preparation
and certification issues so that they will know what career options
they have, and what the routes are in pursuing those options.
-
Demonstrate knowledge of basic information,
concepts and principles in the field of psychology, especially as
they pertain to the education of young children.
-
Demonstrate college-level competence in the
area of critical reading and writing.
-
Demonstrate the ability to successfully
complete college-level work in an area of concentration.
