Program Description:
The Help Desk Support Certificate is under revision.
Please contact the Curriculum Chair for information about new course and
program developments in Computer Support,
Security and Forensics.
This certificate, which helps students prepare for
the next generation of Information Technology (IT) jobs in the computer
support field, consists of eight courses and is designed to be completed
in two semesters of full-time study. The program prepares students
through instruction in the installation, repair and upgrade of computer
hardware components and provides knowledge of processors, motherboards,
memory systems, peripherals; and the basic concepts and terminology of
networks. It also emphasizes skills needed for effective customer
service and problem resolution along with the development of skills that
include the assessment of user needs and documentation of the problems.
The certificate is intended for individuals with no
prior computer experience but who possess good written and oral
communication skills, as well as individuals who are at a career
crossroad. Students in this program will gain skills consistent with the
requirements of the Microsoft Office Specialist certification and A+
Core Hardware Exam. Several of the courses can be applied either to the
Associate degree in Office Technologies or Computer Information Systems.
Graduates of the certificate program will be qualified to seek
entry-level positions in such jobs as Help Desk Coordinator, Help Desk
Technician, and Computer Tech Support.
