Program Description:
During recent years, automobiles have evolved into highly sophisticated and complex mechanisms, requiring highly skilled technicians to service, maintain, and repair them. This trend is projected to continue in years to come.
The Apprentice Training: Automotive program provides the theoretical and technical knowledge and skills necessary to build a career as an automotive technician. Courses in the program deal with major automotive systems. These systems include engines, heating and ventilation, air conditioning, steering and suspension, brakes, manual and automatic transmissions, electrical and electronic systems, emission controls, and safety. Our core courses in mathematics, physics, English, social sciences, and the humanities will
prepare you to deal with customers, colleagues, and the complexity of the machine. Successful completion of this program leads to an Associate in Applied Science degree.
Because of its outstanding reputation, Westchester Community College’s automotive program has been designated a National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence Testing Center. Students are eligible to enter into a New York State–supervised apprenticeship agreement with their employers and are qualified for the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) examination certification tests upon completion of their courses.
