WHY: The Collegiate Academy at Roosevelt High School provides students with the opportunity to pursue a rigorous high school curriculum in which they can earn both a high school diploma and college credits.  Westchester Community College and Roosevelt High School have joined in a unique collaboration which is designed to motivate and support students as they progress from ninth grade through high school graduation, and then on to post-secondary education.

Roosevelt students – beginning at the ninth-grade level – will be encouraged to think seriously about attending college, and to strengthen and enrich their high school experiences to better prepare them to succeed in college. Among the components of this program will be close collaboration between high school and college faculty to strengthen curricula; an onsite Academic Support Center - modeled after the highly successful Academic Support Center at the college; enhanced science demonstrations and labs; shared library and career counseling; a joint calendar of events to expose students to college experiences; and the development of a summer science institute.

Students in the Collegiate Academy will be able to enroll in college level courses during their junior and senior years, creating the possibility that some students will be able to earn an Associate’s Degree in just five years after beginning ninth grade.

In addition to this collaboration, Westchester Community College offers evening college classes for the community at Roosevelt High School.
