SECOND CITY COMES TO WESTCHESTER
IN DECEMBER
Chicago’s legendary comedy theatre, The Second City,
will present their Dysfunctional
Holiday Revue as an alternative to the usual Christmas season fare. It
features some of the best sketches, songs, and improvisations from Second
City’s 45-year history. The revue is scheduled
for Saturday, December 8 at 8:00 p.m. in the Academic Arts Theatre at
Westchester
Community College.
Filled with a raucous blend of sketches, songs, and
improvisation, this show features a healthy dose of seasonal satire.
Holiday film classics, family gatherings, improvised Christmas
carols; nothing is too sacred for the witty and interactive ensemble, whose
famous veterans have headlined as
Saturday Night Live cast members (including John Belushi, Joan Rivers,
Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, Dan Aykroyd, Gilda Radner).
This is the perfect seasons’ greeting antidote to spike
your holiday egg nog! Not only does an evening with The Second City provide
audiences with the chance to see comedy stars in the making, but it will
also allow them to see absolutely hilarious satire and cutting-edge
improvisation. No topic or subject matter is off limits for Second City.
It all started in a converted Chinese laundry on
Chicago’s north side in 1959. No one could know that
by the next century, Second
City
would have established itself as the premier comedy institution in the
world. With theatres in Chicago,
Toronto,
Detroit, Las Vegas,
and Denver; training centers in each of those
cities as well as New York and Los Angeles; and touring troupes that bring its unique
brand of improv-based sketch comedy all over the world, Second City
has become, in the words of The New
York Times, “a comedy empire.”
