POETS AND WRITERS EVENTS
Westchester Community College is offering a series of
poetry and writing events starting in February. These presentations are free
and open to the public.
LUCY ANNE
HURSTON on Monday, February 4 at 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. in Classroom Building
– Room 200. Lucy Anne Hurston is the niece of Zora Neale Hurston and
author of the multimedia Hurston biography, Speak and Speak Again.
Booklist says that this
“incredible illustrative matter is the real draw and what makes the book so
amazing."
SCOTT WOODS on
Tuesday, March 4 at 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. in

Scott Woods is author and editor of over nine volumes of poetry and prose,
including
50 Mistakes Poets Make and
High Desert Voices: The 2005 National Poetry
Slam Anthology. He has been featured on National Public Radio.
Founder of the poetry performance group
The Black Air Poets and the President of
Poetry Slam Inc., he oversees the annual National Poetry Slam and
the Individual World Poetry Slam.
PAUL WRAY on
Thursday, May 1 at 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. in
Classroom
Building – Room 200.
At one time, Wray fancied himself a writer of humor, at another a poet.
Turning out to be a good technical writer, he wrote professionally about
computers. He is currently working on a memoir about the terminal illness of
his late wife and the joy that comes from finding love again.
Poets and Writers celebrates April Poetry Month with
weekly workshops lead by master page and stage poets. These free workshops
are open to the community.
