SHAKESPEARE’S A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM PRESENTED AT WESTCHESTER COMMUNITY COLLEGE ON MAY 14Shakespeare’s comic fantasy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, will be performed by the National Players on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. in the Academic Arts Theatre at Westchester Community College. Known to be one of Shakespeare’s literary comedic masterworks, the play portrays the adventures of four young Athenian lovers and a group of amateur actors, their interactions with the Duke of Athens, Theseus, Hippolyta, and the fairies who inhabit an enchanted, moonlit forest. Three interlocking plots are connected by the celebration of a wedding. The play is one of Shakespeare's most popular works. In operation since 1949, National Players is America’s longest running classical touring company. Comprised of young professionals, each year the company travels throughout the country performing two plays in repertory, one Shakespearean play and one dramatic classic. Currently a program of Olney Theatre Center, National Players has earned a unique name and place in American theater. After 59 consecutive seasons of touring, this remarkable acting company has given approximately 5,875 performances and workshops on plays by Shakespeare, O’Neill, Moliere, Shaw, Kafka, Sophocles, Aeschylus, Aristophanes, Tom Stoppard and Peter Shaffer.
