WESTCHESTER
COMMUNITY COLLEGE
PRESENTS HAMLET ON OCTOBER 12
Westchester Community College presents Shakespeare’s
masterpiece Hamlet performed by
the American Shakespeare Center on Sunday, October 12, at 3:00 p.m. in the
Academic Arts Theatre on the Valhalla campus of Westchester Community
College.
Hamlet is a
philosopher’s gold mine (“To be or not to be…”) but it is also a ghost
story, a comedy, a thriller, and a tale of revenge. For four hundred years,
audiences of all ages and both sexes have identified with this troubled
Prince as he copes with the loss of his father, his mother’s remarriage, and
life’s biggest questions. “Something is rotten in the state of Denmark,” and
Hamlet, who seeks to uncover the source of the stench, struggles to discover
what is real and what is illusion in this world turned upside down.
The American Shakespeare
Center, through its
performances, theatres, exhibitions, and educational programs, brings
Shakespeare, the joys of theatre and language, and the communal experience
of the Renaissance stage to all. By recreating Renaissance conditions of
performance, the ASC explores its repertory of plays for accessibility and a
better understanding of these great works. In their hometown of Staunton, Virginia,
the ASC has conducted a recreation of Shakespeare’s original indoor theatre,
the Blackfriars Playhouse
Tickets for
Hamlet are $20 (general admission), $17 (for students/seniors) and $12
(for children under 13). For tickets or information on these performances or
the many other exciting cultural events, call 914-606-6262.
