WESTCHESTER COMMUNITY COLLEGE
College Slam Poetry Team Takes Top Honors

Westchester Community College’s Slam Poetry Team recently took top honors at a poetry competition held at the Bowery Poetry Club in Manhattan. The college team faced various City University of New York teams at the New York City Inter-Collegiate Poetry Slam event.

Slam Poetry, or Performance Poetry, is a gritty, passionate style of “Street Poetry” which involves a dual emphasis of writing and performance. The work frequently takes on urban themes and audience participation is encouraged.

The members of the winning team included:
              Ryan Banga of Bronx, NY.
              James Clough of Peekskill.
              Rebecca Diaz of Bronxville.
              Devin Blanchard of New Rochelle.

Banga and Clough tied for the honor of top poet.
