Types of Gifts
Gifts to the Westchester Community
College Foundation may take a variety of forms according to the needs and
resources of our many donors. Gifts can be made in cash or through
pledges, in real or personal property, in stocks or bonds, and through
bequests or other planned gifts. The Foundation is registered with New
York State as a charitable foundation and recognized as a 501(c)(3)
organization by the Internal Revenue Service.

Pledges
It is possible for you to make an
annual gift and pay it in a number of installments over the course of the
Foundation’s fiscal year, which begins September 1st and ends on August
31st. You may make payments on your annual pledge anytime that suits you
best within the fiscal year.
Multi-Year Pledges
You may also make a multi-year pledge commitment, either for a series of
annual gifts over several years or for gifts for a special restricted
purpose.
To establish a multi-year pledge, please call the Foundation Office at 914-606-6670 or email wcc.foundation@sunywcc.edu.
Transfer of Stock or
Securities
Transfer of appreciated stock is a mutually beneficial way to support Westchester Community College. In order to save taxes, it is usually most beneficial to transfer securities directly to the Foundation, rather than selling the securities and giving the proceeds to the Foundation. By following the steps below, you will ensure that
your gift is directed appropriately.

Endowment Gifts
You may make a gift to establish a
named endowment. An endowment gift is invested and only a certain percentage
of the earnings, as established by Foundation Board policy, is spent for the
specified purpose each year. The minimum gift to establish a named endowment
is $10,000.
Gifts to establish an endowment may be unrestricted or given for a special purpose that falls within the mission of the Foundation.
If you are interested in establishing an endowment, the Foundation staff would be glad to work with you to set up a fund that best addresses the Foundation’s mission, the College’s needs and your intent.

Donor-Advised Gifts
Donor Advised Funds offer donors a
greater degree of flexibility and control over fund distributions, as well
as an immediate tax deduction for contributions, and provide an alternative
to direct giving or setting up a private foundation.
The donor makes an irrevocable contribution of cash, securities or other property to a Foundation restricted fund. The Foundation maintains the fund. The donor retains the privilege of making recommendations or providing advice on the fund’s distribution. In accordance with IRS regulations, however, ultimate grant approval remains with the Foundation Board of Directors

About Planned Gifts
You may elect to support Westchester Community College by designating the Westchester Community College Foundation as a beneficiary in your will, or through other instruments such as a life insurance policy, retirement funds or a charitable gift annuity. (Charitable gift annuities may be established by individuals 65 years or older. The minimum annuity contribution is $10,000)
Planned gifts may offer you significant tax savings while assuring that the Foundation will have future resources to address the needs of the College. If you are considering a gift to the Westchester Community College Foundation, we would be delighted to work with you and your advisors to explore charitable gift options that may enhance your overall estate plan and benefit you and your family, as well as provide a meaningful gift.
Individuals who remember the Foundation in their estate plans become members of the Hartford Hall Society.
The Importance of Having a
Will
It is important to have a will and an
estate plan – even if your “estate” is very small – consisting only of money
in the bank, your home, your car and/or life insurance. Without a will, the
state in which you live will distribute your assets for you according to
state law, and not according to your intentions. Your will needs to be
updated each time major changes take place in your life, such as marriage, divorce,
birth of children or grandchildren, buying or selling property. An outdated
will can be just as damaging to your family as no will at all.
To finalize your will and your estate plan, you should work with an attorney—one who specializes in wills and estate planning—to help you formulate your intentions and made sure that your wishes are carried out.
It is important to use the proper legal description of the Foundation (Westchester Community College Foundation) in all legal gift documents. Click here to find more information on Establishing a Bequest at Westchester Community College Foundation.
Campaigns and Major Gifts
Periodically, the Foundation conducts
special campaigns to raise substantial funds for building projects or for
special programs. These campaigns offer opportunities for the Foundation to
recognize certain donors of substantial gifts by naming certain facilities
or programs.

giving and naming opportunities, please contact:

memory of family members, friends or mentors or to acknowledge significant
milestones in someone’s life: graduations, anniversaries, significant
achievements, etc.
Gifts also may be directed to the Foundation by family recommendation at the time of a family member’s death.
Acknowledgment of gifts in honor will be made to the honoree, gifts in memory to a designated family member. The amount of the contribution will not be mentioned.
