Establishing a Bequest at Westchester Community College FoundationThank you for expressing an interest in establishing a bequest with Westchester Community College Foundation as the beneficiary. Making provisions for a gift is relatively simple and should be made with the advice and assistance of your attorney. The following information will help you make the necessary arrangements. There are essentially three ways to provide for Westchester Community College Foundation in your will. You can leave Westchester Community College Foundation:
You can establish a named fund with your legacy by naming the gift after yourself or to honor or memorialize a loved one. Your fund can endow a scholarship ($10,000 minimum gift) or you can request that an endowment be set up to support a specific area, e.g. the Library, the Children’s Center, etc. If you are unsure what area you would like to support, the gift can be specified to be spent “at the discretion of the Westchester Community College Foundation Board of Directors.” If you are most interested in a scholarship, you may specify, “These funds will establish an endowed fund known as the (your name) Scholarship” or in the name of another individual you would like remembered. It is important for your attorney to have the proper legal description of the Foundation (Westchester Community College Foundation) for your will. After having a meeting with your attorney, we will be happy to discuss any details or questions he/she may have regarding the exact wording or provisions. Once you have made this provision in your will, it is helpful to have a confidential copy sent for our files. If you do not wish to send a copy, please consider sending us the name and address of the attorney who is handling your estate planning for our records. We want to thank you for thinking of us in creating this important legacy for our students. If you have any questions, please call Linda Champanier at 914-606-6804
