Welcome to the Future Educators
Club Web Site
FEA is an international association of students who are preparing for careers in education. Our campus chapter of FEA was founded in 2002. Since then, our club has grown substantially. Our mission is to serve as entry point for all prospective educators who are interested in exploring all aspects of the education profession, including counseling, administration, and teaching at all levels from pre-school to university. In addition, we hope to keep our members abreast of the requirements and changes in the New York State
Education System.
We meet every week during the Common Hour (11 to 1) in AAB 412. Lunch is provided. Newcomers and visitors are always welcome. FEA provides:
- Scholarship Opportunities
- The Leo Benardo Scholarship for
Excellence in the Study of Languages
- The Irene Economou Memorial Scholarship
for a Promising Future Teacher
- The Linda Ching Sledge Future Educators Association Scholarship
- Internship Opportunities
STEP (Student Teacher Education Program) internships sponsored by the English Department.
- Spring Essay Contest
Topics are announced each spring. Cash prizes are awarded. This contest is open to all Westchester Community College students.
- Charitable Service Projects
FEA sponsors an annual Valentine’s Day bake sale with proceeds donated to children in need. Our newest project was a fall campus walk-a-thon to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Over 80 students and faculty participated, including children of the Virginia Marx Children’s Center. Over $2,000 was raised for the Red Cross.
- Guest Speakers
Weekly guest speakers may address hot button issues in education, give candid glimpses into fields such as counseling, administration, or recruit students for transfer to competitive schools.
