TITLE OF POSITION: Program Specialist (Assistant Director, Yonkers Extension Center)

DEPARTMENT/ DIVISION: Division of Continuing Education

RESPONSIBILITIES: This full-time position assists with program development and management of a large, facility-based extension center, with a focus on credit courses in information technology and general education, and non credit courses for adults and businesses. Additional responsibilities include job development and job placement for students and other job and recruitment related activities, as well as coordinating the provision of services to students attending the extension center classes. This position reports to the Director of the Extension Center. Responsibilities include:

  • Assists the program director with program development, implementation and evaluation.
     
  • Assists in community outreach efforts and marketing to credit and non-credit students.
     
  • Assists with administration of registration systems, attendance, and grade reports.
     
  • Assists with the handling of facility related issues.
     
  • Assists with the completion of schedules, payroll, bank deposits, and room assignments.
     
  • Acts as on-site administrator in the absence of the program administrator.
     
  • In collaboration with director and others, develops and coordinates non credit classes based in Yonkers for the general public, businesses, school personnel and other groups.
     
  • Coordinates the provision of student support services and insures that students are informed about available services.
     
  • Establishes and maintains an on-going job bank for student employment
     
  • Develops and maintains contacts with area employers, including organizing regular open houses and job fairs.
     
  • Assists students with job search activities and resume development, and follows up with employers and students at timely intervals post-placement.
     
  • Assists in the development and writing of grant proposals.
     
  • Regular work hours may include a minimum of two evenings per week spent on site.
     
  • Other related responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with 2 years experience in education/educational administration is required. A Master’s degree is preferred. Experience in information technology preferred; excellent communication skills (oral and written) and proven administrative skills; knowledge of the fundamentals of educational programs and administrative procedures; ability to work in a culturally diverse environment; computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets and databases.

SALARY & BENEFITS: $54,460 plus competitive benefits
