Position AnnouncementTITLE OF POSITION/RANK: Instructor/Physical Sciences (Tenure Track) DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Physical Sciences Department/ Division of Mathematics, Computer, Physical & Engineering Sciences and Technologies RESPONSIBILITIES: The Physical Sciences Department seeks a tenure track Instructor. Teaching assignments include lecture and laboratory instruction in basic Physical Sciences courses. The Instructor will primarily teach courses for non-science majors in "Principles of Energy" and "Weather & Climate". We are a service department for a variety of non-science majors, also offering courses in Physics, Astronomy, Earth Science, Oceanography, and Physical Geography. The Instructor will teach 15 hours per week and maintain a minimum of 5 office hours per week. Taking an active role in syllabus development/review and laboratory protocol development, serving on department and college-wide committees, and participating in other department activities, college activities, and professional development are among additional responsibilities. QUALIFICATIONS: A M.S. in a closely related physical science subject (e.g. Meteorology or Atmospheric Science), and one year of prior teaching experience at a secondary and/or undergraduate level are required. Candidates with a Ph.D. in a closely related physical science subject (e.g. Meteorology or Atmospheric Science) are also encouraged to apply. Commitment to teaching excellence and knowledge of effective pedagogy, assessment techniques, and current research and practices in science education are required. Familiarity with the goals of a community college and a demonstrated ability to interact with a diverse and multicultural student body is also required. POSITION EFFECTIVE: Fall 2011 (Hiring is subject to the
availability of funds). SALARY & BENEFITS: Starting salary $57,415 plus excellent
