Position Announcement

The following position requires familiarity with the community college philosophy, and the ability to work within a culturally diverse college population. 

The Physical Sciences Department seeks applicants for a full-time tenure track Instructor.  Teaching assignments include lecture and laboratory instruction in basic Physical Sciences courses.   We seek an instructor who can primarily teach Physical Geography and a science course for non science majors.  We are a service department for a variety of non-science majors, also offering courses in Atmospheric Science, Energy, Physics, Astronomy, Earth Science, and Oceanography.

DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Department:  Physical Sciences Department
Division: Division of Mathematics, Physical & Engineering Sciences and Technologies 

TITLE OF POSITION/RANK:  Instructor Full-Time Tenure Track 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach basic Physical Sciences courses
  • Teach 15 contact hours per week
  • Hold a minimum of five office hours per week
  • Take an active role in syllabus development/review and laboratory protocol development
  • Serve on department and college-wide committees
  • Participate in other department and college activities
  • Participate in professional development

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in a physical science subject preferred.
  • 1 year of prior teaching experience at a secondary and/or undergraduate level required.
  • Commitment to teaching excellence: knowledge of student learning styles, assessment techniques, current research and practices in science education
  • Familiarity with the goals of a community college, and a demonstrated ability to interact with a diverse and multicultural student body

POSITION EFFECTIVE:  FALL 2008 

SALARY & BENEFITS: $52,545; excellent health, retirement and leave benefits
