Westchester Community College Anticipated Opening
Program Specialist For Leadership & Multicultural Programs Office
of Student Involvement GENERAL DUTIES:
The Program Specialist, under the general supervision of the
Director of Student Involvement, will be responsible for coordinating
programs, events and workshops for several hundred students, that seek to
develop leadership development and multicultural competence among the
student body of the institution. The position has no direct reports. The
Office of Student Involvement is committed to providing comprehensive and
meaningful experiences for students in the co-curriculum. Through the
creation of intentional environments, the Office of Student Involvement
helps students acquire leadership and other transferable skills that can be
utilized throughout their academic and professional careers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and implement training program that
centers on leadership development; specifically through a social change
model of leadership. Components to include a leadership certificate
program, emerging leader series, and leadership opportunities for
underrepresented students and current student leaders and an annual
Leadership Conference for student participants.
- Design and implement diversity training program
initiatives that support students’ development of multicultural
competencies by developing, implementing and evaluating programs that
address these needs. Work with students to create cultural
celebrations that promote awareness and education on campus.
- Monitors all program costs and assists in the
development of budgets
- Investigates new instructional methods for
leadership and diversity trainings to meet educational objectives of
students
- Ensures the delivery of educational services in
the areas of leadership and diversity programs by effectively
coordinating the administrative aspects involved in same
- Ensures the instructional objectives meet
the program goals for the leadership and multicultural program
participants
- Co-advise the College’s Student Government
Association, including but not limited to the: Club Council, Secretary
and Vice President.
- Assist the Director of Student Involvement with
advancing the mission of the Department.
- Attend, present, and represent the office at
College events as required.
- Serve on student, divisional, and college
committees.
- Value and take part in professional development,
research, and assessment initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES:
Good knowledge of the fundamentals of educational programs; good knowledge
of administrative procedures in an educational environment; ability to set
up laboratory, audio visual and other educational equipment; ability to
communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to establish
and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty and members of
the business community; physical condition commensurate with the
requirements of the position.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree*
and two years of experience in the field of education, educational
administration, recruitment and/or training, or in the analysis of program
operations, marketing or customer services.
SUBSTITUTIONS: Satisfactory completion of 30 credits
towards a Master’s Degree* may be substituted for each year of the
experience.
*SPECIAL NOTE: Education beyond the secondary level
must be from an institution recognized or accredited by the Board of Regents
of the New York State Education Department as a post-secondary, degree-
granting institution.
