The Gateway Center The Gateway Center, a new multi use classroom building at Westchester Community College, will provide targeted programs for motivated new American, international students and the entire student population. The Welcome Center will provide a critical first point of entry to the campus, where prospective students, visitors, and community members can learn how to access college facilities and programs. It will also allow college representatives to conduct important outreach, retention, and recruitment efforts through its call center. The Welcome Center will utilize a volunteer corps and maintain referral networks with community partners. OFFICE ASSISTANT (WORD PROCESSING/SPANISH SPEAKING). Under the direct supervision of the Director of the Welcome Center, the Office Assistant performs a wide variety of tasks providing clerical support and may act as an Office Assistant for a number of administrative or professional staff. Independent action is exercised when routine procedures or clearly defined policies are involved. Supervision may be exercised over a small number of subordinate personnel. Flexibility of hours may be required. The minimum starting salary is $37,965 plus a competitive benefits package. The successful candidate must possess a minimum of a high school or equivalency diploma and three years of experience where the primary function of the position was the performance of general office/clerical work, one year of which must have included the use of a typewriter and/or word processor to produce correspondence, forms, reports, or other documents, and the maintenance of records. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office is also required. Duties require proficiency in both Spanish and English, providing interpretive and information service. *This is a Civil Service position.
