TITLE OF POSITION/RANK: Instructor-Journalism & Media Arts (Tenure Track)

DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Communications and Media Arts Department in Arts and Humanities Division

RESPONSIBILITIES: Westchester Community College seeks a dynamic individual with demonstrated ability in print and digital journalism to teach undergraduate courses in journalism and media arts. Professional experience using the tools of digital media is required including Final Cut Pro, InDesign and Photoshop. The Instructor will participate in the development, improvement, and assessment of the journalism/media arts program as well as developing new courses and revising existing course offerings and syllabi to incorporate new technologies in the disciplines of journalism and media arts. The candidate must be committed to supporting the College’s curriculum development and lifelong learning goals and actively participate in curriculum initiatives. Particular emphasis will be placed on the transition from traditional to digital approaches in journalism and media arts and the integration of new technologies into the discipline. The candidate will be expected to take an active role in the department, including: advising students; serving on departmental and college committees; and advising student media organizations including the award-winning student newspaper’s print and online editions. Other duties may be determined relative to the skills and interests of the applicant and the needs of the department.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: M.A. in Communications, Journalism, or Mass Communications; Equivalent of one year of full-time college-level teaching experience; Evidence of demonstrated knowledge of multi-media and convergence equipment and software; Journalism experience is a plus.

POSITION EFFECTIVE:  September 1, 2010

SALARY & BENEFITS:
Starting salary $55,745 plus competitive benefits.
