The following position requires familiarity with the community college philosophy and the ability to work within a culturally diverse college population.

TITLE OF POSITION/RANK: Instructor/Counselor

DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Student Development and Support Services/Student Financial Assistance

RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Financial Assistance, the Instructor/Counselor will provide advice to students on the financial aid application process. The Instructor/Counselor will serve as the expert on the Federal Direct loan process including awarding, monitoring and reconciling accounts with the COD and the College’s records. S/he will also troubleshoot and resolve discrepancies and/or issues.

QUALIFICATIONS: A Master’s degree in counseling or within a student service discipline as well as one year of experience in financial aid are required. 3 years of financial aid experience is highly preferred. The successful candidate must possess sound knowledge of all federal and state financial aid programs; experience working with the Federal Direct Loan Program; and experience with automatic packaging and electronic data exchange (EDE and COD). Computer software experience is required. PeopleSoft experience is highly preferred. Experience educating students and families about financial aid is required. The successful candidate must have excellent analytical, writing and oral skills. S/he must be detailed oriented and have the ability to work in an interdependent working environment. Participation in relevant organizations is required.

POSITION EFFECTIVE: January 15, 2010

SALARY & BENEFITS: The minimum starting salary is $55,745 plus competitive benefits.
