TESOL POSITIONS AVAILABLE

ESL adjunct (part-time) positions available at the English Language Institute, Westchester Community College for the Summer 2007 term at the following locations: 

Main campus in Valhalla, New York; WCC extensions in Mt. Kisco, Mt. Vernon, New Rochelle, Ossining, Peekskill, Port Chester , White Plains & Yonkers

General Requirements: In each ESL program/course the instructor must meet the stated requirements for the program/course as a whole, and must be qualified for the particular proficiency level and subject area. All courses require an M.A. in TESOL, or a closely related degree, evidence of significant personal experience in second-language learning and appropriate experience as specified below:


·        Evening ESL Program — 9-level (pre-1 to 8), integrated skills
Tues/Thurs, 6:30-9:30 PM in Valhalla and Mount Vernon;
Mon/Wed 6:30-9:30 PM in Valhalla, Mount Kisco, Ossining, Peekskill, Port Chester, New Rochelle and Yonkers

·        Afternoon ESL Program — 9-level (pre-1 to 8), integrated skills
Tues/Thurs, 3:00-6:00 PM in Valhalla

·        Saturday ESL Program — 9-level (pre-1 to 8), integrated skills
Sat 9 AM-12 PM and 12:30 PM-3:30 PM (teach both AM and PM, different groups) in Valhalla, Peekskill, Ossining, Mount Vernon and Yonkers

·        Sunday ESL Program — 9-level (pre-1 to 8), integrated skills
Sun 9 AM-12 PM and 12:30 PM-3:30 PM (teach both AM and PM, different groups) in Valhalla

·        Morning ESL Program —Yonkers levels are 4-7; others are 0-3
Tues/Thurs, 9:00 AM-12:00 PM in Mt. Vernon, Ossining, Peekskill, Yonkers

·        Library ESL Program—2-level (low or mid beginner), integrated skills various schedules in New Rochelle and White Plains Public Libraries

·        All the Basics ESL Program—2-level (low or high beginner), integrated skills
Mon/Wed 6:30-9:30 PM in Mahopac 

Minimum Experience:  In addition to the degree requirement, 1 year teaching ESL/EFL to adults.  


Intensive English Program (IEP)—9-levels (pre-1 to 8)

The IEP consists of the following two courses:

·        IEP Grammar/Reading/Writing/Vocabulary
Mon/Wed/Fri 9:00 AM-12:00 PM or 3:00 PM-6:00 PM in Valhalla

Minimum Experience:  In addition to degree requirement, 1 year of experience teaching these skills in an IEP environment.

·        IEP Listening/Speaking/Pronunciation
Tues/Thurs 9:00 AM-12:00 PM or 3:00 PM-6:00 PM in Valhalla

Minimum Experience:  In addition to degree requirement, 1 year of experience teaching these skills in an IEP environment. 

·         ESL Special Topics—Tues/Thurs 1:00 PM-2:30 PM in Valhalla
Topics are determined by the Institute, often based on proposals from faculty which the Institute has approved.

·        Pronunciation 1 & 2—Mon 6:30-9:30 PM, or Sat 9:00 AM-12:00 PM in Valhalla;

Minimum Experience:  In addition to degree requirement, coursework in phonetics and phonology with appropriate experience, 1 year experience teaching pronunciation as a discrete skill in an adult or college ESL/EFL setting. 

·        ESL Writing Workshop—Mon/Wed 7:00-9:30 PM or Sat 9:00 AM-12:00 PM in Valhalla;
Minimum Experience:  In addition to degree requirement, 1 year experience teaching ESL Writing in an adult or college ESL/EFL environment as a separate and distinct course. 

·        TOEFL Preparation—Mon/Wed 7:00-9:30 PM, or Sat 12:30-4:25 PM in Valhalla

Minimum Experience:  In addition to degree requirement, 1 year experience teaching TOEFL preparation courses. 

·        ESL Business English—Sat. 12:30-3:30 PM in Valhalla

Minimum Experience:  In addition to degree requirement, 1 year experience teaching Business English or related courses. 

·        English for Academic Purposes—Wed/Fri 9:00-12:00 PM, or Mon/Wed 6:30-9:30 PM,
or Saturday 9:00AM-12:00 PM in Valhalla;

Minimum Experience:  In addition to requirements for teaching both IEP programs, degree requirement, two years experience teaching the given skill as a distinct course in a college ESL/EFL environment with an academic focus
