Educational Opportunity Center The following position requires familiarity w/the community college philosophy, and the ability to work within a culturally diverse college population. TITLE OF POSITION/RANK: Counselor (College and Careers) DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: The Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) RESPONSIBILITIES: The Counselor will develop and implement a comprehensive College Connections Program to plant a seed in the minds of underserved students that college is an attainable goal. The Counselor will plan college tours, conduct workshops, and assist students in exploring career options and preparing for college. S/he will provide assessment, placement, counseling, case management and advocacy services to students enrolled in developmental and academic programs. S/he will also work closely with faculty to monitor student progress; and coordinate special programs and activities to promote student retention and success. QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Guidance, Counseling, or a related field as well as a minimum of three years of experience in admissions and/or guidance work, preferably at the college level. A MA/MS degree is preferred. The successful candidate must also be knowledgeable of guidance and counseling techniques, recruitment and retention strategies, and have the ability to relate well to underserved populations. S/he must have a general working knowledge of college entrance requirements and be familiar with financial aid and other resources that are available to underserved students. All candidates are expected to possess strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills and be able to work independently. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required. Some evening hours will be required. SALARY AND BENEFITS: This position is fully grant funded. The starting salary is $55,745 plus a competitive benefits package.
