Position Announcement

DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: English

The following position requires familiarity with the community college philosophy and the ability to work within a culturally diverse college population.

TITLE OF POSITION/RANK: Instructor

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching four classes per semester including developmental writing and first year composition; 8 office hours per week; department and college service including learning assessments, curriculum and program development

QUALIFICATIONS:

M.A. required, Ph.D. preferred (in English or closely related field
Three years college teaching experience
Expertise in the teaching of writing and familiarity with curriculum development in this area
The ability to teach basic writing, composition, and writing-intensive elective courses with sensitivity to the needs of under prepared students.
Sensitivity to issues of diversity within an open admissions college
Research and scholarship in English or composition/rhetoric studies a plus
Familiarity with the integration of technology into teaching and learning
Experience with distance learning software a plus

POSITION EFFECTIVE: Fall 2008

SALARY & BENEFITS: Starting salary $52,545; excellent health and leave benefits.
