TITLE OF POSITION/RANK: Director of Institutional
Advancement (Search re-opened - *Previous applicants need not

DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Division of External
Affairs/Westchester Community College Foundation
RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include planning,
organizing, and implementing fundraising efforts designed to secure major
gifts/grants from government, corporate, and foundation sources.
Reporting to the VP of External Affairs/Executive Director of WCC
Foundation, the Director of Institutional Advancement will be responsible
for identifying, cultivating and securing funding from government,
corporate, and foundation grant-making sources. The Director will work
collaboratively with a range of college personnel on the strategic
identification of program needs, the development and leadership of “grant
teams” to formulate and submit proposals and budgets, and assist with pre-
and post-grant preparation and administration. S/he will have direct
relationships with External Affairs/Foundation staff, the Foundation Board
of Directors, the President and Deans of College, WCC faculty, staff, &
administration, and institutional funding sources.
The Director will continually investigate and research grant opportunities
in order to match them with College priorities, and will have sufficient
knowledge of college programs to suggest potential projects in response to
RFPs. Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Identifying government, corporate, foundation and other gift/grant
prospects that will lead to commitments supporting the mission and
strategic plan of the College; work on a full range of faculty,
institutional and designated gifts/grants to the College typically
resulting in awards of $1 -2 million annually.
- Developing prospects in the corporate, foundation, and
government arenas; developing strategic partnerships with contacts from
corporate, foundation, and government funding contacts; monitoring
philanthropic and business trends.
- Performing multiple aspects of researching and writing proposals:
Establishing standardized process to review, identifying and ranking
appropriate funding opportunities in support of identified needs;
preparing and following proposals through to final submission; acting as
the College's authorized organizational representative for submissions
of government proposals.
- Serving as the point person for faculty and program personnel
regarding technical issues related to grant administration, management
and reporting. Finalizing program description, scope of work,
budget, payment provisions, reporting requirements, approval
requirements and special terms and conditions. Working closely
with financial managers to ensure careful and detailed administration of
approved gifts/grants, complete and prompt reporting and payment
tracking.
- Adhering to all applicable laws and ethical standards for charitable
giving as adopted by the College.
- Other fundraising duties as assigned in keeping with the strategic
goals of the College.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree and a
minimum of five years of experience in fundraising, with a focus on
government/corporate/foundation grant development.
- Two or more years of experience in a higher education setting
is preferred; knowledge of the community college environment and needs
of community college students is desirable.
- A Master’s degree in education, non-profit management, or a related
field that focuses on fundraising and philanthropy is also preferred.
- Candidates should have evidence of a successful track record of
securing funding in the $250k range and higher.
- Knowledge of Raiser's Edge is preferred; occasional travel
required.
- S/he must possess the ability to coordinate internal and external
resources; ability to manage multiple assignments concurrently;
knowledge of program development; ability to establish and maintain
professional relationships; sound professional judgment, integrity,
resourcefulness.
