The following position requires familiarity with the community college philosophy, and the ability to work within a culturally diverse college population.

TITLE OF POSITION/RANK:  Instructor of Chemistry 

DEPARTMENT/DIVISION:  Chemistry Department /Division of Natural & Health Sciences 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  
The Chemistry Department seeks applicants for a full-time tenure track Instructor’s position.  Teaching assignments would include lecture and laboratory instruction in General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry courses for both science and non-science majors. The position includes a 15 contact-hour per week teaching load plus a minimum of five office hours per week.  In addition, the instructor will participate in curricula development and review, assessment, laboratory course development and other department and college-wide activities. The instructor is also expected to keep up with his/her field by actively engaging in professional development. 

QUALIFICATIONS:  A Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry is required. In addition, a Master’s Degree in Chemistry or in a closely related field is required.   A Doctorate in Chemistry or a closely related field is highly preferred.  One year of previous experience in teaching Chemistry at the college level is also required.  We seek an Instructor who can teach lecture and laboratory sections of General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry.  Familiarity with the use of technology in instruction and an interest in online teaching is a plus.  Commitment to excellent teaching and to the goals of a community college is sought. The successful candidate should have a strong desire to interact with a culturally diverse student body. 

POSITION EFFECTIVE:  This is a tenure track position which opens for the Spring 2010 semester. 
SALARY & BENEFITS:
Starting salary $55,745 plus competitive benefits.
