TITLE OF POSITION/RANK:  Bilingual Counselor (Spanish/English)
 
DEPARTMENT/DIVISION:  Educational Opportunity Center
The Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) of Westchester, a division of Westchester Community College, is seeking an experienced, energetic, innovative, results oriented professional to join its team. Located in Yonkers, NY, this non-traditional adult education institution provides tuition-free academic and vocational training to eligible underserved adults seeking to develop basic academic and vocational skills competencies and credentials needed for enrollment in college and/or entry into the workforce. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Counselor will assess and evaluate English language learners and other candidates for enrollment in training programs.  S/he will place students in appropriate level programs, conduct academic/personal/career counseling, provide case management and advocacy services, and evaluate student progress. S/he will also coordinate special programs and activities to ensure student retention and success.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:  The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Guidance, Psychology, Sociology, or a closely related field and three years of experience in the fields of admissions or guidance counseling. The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English and Spanish. S/he must possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills and be able to work independently. The successful candidate must also be knowledgeable of guidance and counseling techniques, recruitment and retention strategies, and have the ability to relate well to underserved populations. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.  Oral and written proficiency in Spanish are required.  Some evening hours are also required.
 
POSITION EFFECTIVE:  The position will remain open until filled.
 
SALARY:  The starting salary is $57,415 commensurate with experience plus a competitive benefits package.  This position is fully grant funded.
