TITLE OF POSITION/RANK: Admissions Counselor
DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Admissions Department/Division
of Student Development and Support Services
RESPONSIBILITIES: Westchester Community College is
the largest educational institution in Westchester County. The
Division of Student Development and Support Services at Westchester
Community College provides services and programs designed to enhance the
lives of our students and promote student success. Counselors within
the division play a critical role as they help students create educational
plans and develop skills for academic and life success.
Under the general supervision of the Director of Admissions, the Admissions
Counselor recruits students by informing prospective
students/parents/guidance counselors of educational and vocational programs
offered by Westchester Community College. This position serves to
reach out to the community by visiting area high schools, community groups,
and organizations, in order to meet with prospective students both
individually and in groups to disseminate information about our College
programs. The Admissions Counselor organizes visits of students to the
College, sets up meetings with appropriate faculty, organizes and conducts
campus tours, and makes presentations regarding College courses and programs
in order to encourage prospective students to consider WCC as a post
secondary institution. Additionally, this position provides personal,
academic and career counseling for both prospective and enrolled students as
appropriate. S/he will also perform a variety of projects assigned by the
Director of Admissions and/or the Dean of Student Personnel Services.
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must possess a
minimum of a Master's Degree in Guidance, Psychology, Sociology, or student
personnel and up to one year of experience in admissions and/or guidance
counseling work. S/he must possess knowledge of: college courses & programs,
counseling techniques, and technology as it relates to recruitment efforts
(e.g.: databases, Microsoft Office Suite). S/he must be able to relate
to students of traditional college age as well as non-traditional students
of various ages and diverse educational and socio-economic backgrounds. The
ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing is also
required.
SALARY & BENEFITS: The minimum starting salary is
$55,745 plus competitive benefits.
