Affirmative Action (AA) and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Compliance Activities Westchester Community College remains committed to the concepts and practices of Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action which were formally established over 30 years ago by the SUNY and Westchester Community College Boards
of Trustees. The College, in its effort to provide an optimal learning environment, seeks the hiring of persons who are qualified, and whose background is appropriate to fill each vacancy. It is the College’s policy to recruit, employ, and promote employees without discrimination regarding race, color, religion, age, national origin, alienage or citizenship status, ethnicity, marital status, familial status, creed, gender, sexual orientation, disability or any other basis prohibited by law through an
open, and competitive search process. This commitment is in keeping with Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, Executive Order 11246, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1981, the Vietnam Era Veterans' Readjustment Act of 1990, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, as amended, Westchester County Executive Order No. 9 - 1998, Executive Orders No. 5 and No. 6 of 2002, the Equal Pay Act of 1963, as amended, Westchester County Human Rights Law
No. 17-1999, and other applicable Federal State, and County Laws and Regulations.
The experience of three decades of progress toward this goal has reinforced our firm conviction that diversity throughout our workforce enhances our ability to fulfill our mission of providing quality educational opportunities for our students, who reflect a rich and varied diversity. The College's objective in hiring is always to achieve the most talented
workforce possible, a workforce that adequately represents the rich diversity of our community, our state and our nation. Sensitivity, an awareness of the College's mission and goals, and the expectation of diversity throughout all levels of our workforce is uppermost in planning to attract candidates who are capable of providing excellence in the education of our students and the enrichment of the College community.
Further, the “Affirmative Action Handbook for Westchester Community College” addresses the anti-harassment and discrimination policy at all levels of our workforce. The County and the College maintain a “zero tolerance policy” and prohibit any conduct that creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive work environment which is inappropriate or unprofessional.
The County and the College encourage employees to work together amicably and respectfully. Corrective actions are taken whenever discriminatory or harassment conduct is identified. It continues to be our commitment and responsibility to provide a workplace which is rich in diversity and free of all types of discrimination and harassment.
