Smart Classrooms
Westchester
Community College now has upgraded instructional technology across the
Valhalla campus and throughout the extension sites. The campus now has more
than 120 classrooms and six mobile carts that provide first-rate
instructional technology.
Each technology
enhanced room and cart has an instructor PC, a projector, and multimedia
players (DVD and VCR). Many rooms also have document cameras for projecting
printed materials. Eighteen rooms have SMART Boards – touch-activated white
boards. Some seventy contain SMART Sympodium monitors, which use
pressure-pen technology. Some of the mobile media carts are assigned to
specific buildings and are managed by the Media Services technician in that
building; other PC carts can be reserved from Media Services in advance; two
carts are used exclusively by biology faculty and can be reserved through
the Division Office.
Student E-mail
Every student is now given an e-mail account @my.sunywcc.edu.
This e-mail account, hosted by Microsoft Live, offers e-mail and 25 GB of
storage on SkyDrive where students can store data that they wish to access
both on and off-campus. For more information, see

Network Support
-
Internet: All workstations
are networked, including the off-site locations, to a high speed
internet connection.
-
Wireless:
Currently Westchester Community College has wireless coverage via its
Asgard wireless network for more than 95% of our main campus and
coverage at some extension sites. In our ongoing effort to provide our
students the latest in technology we have wireless access throughout the
main areas of campus which include coverage in all academic buildings.
In addition, wireless coverage is provided in the green areas between
the main academic buildings and around the Library. The Mt. Vernon and
Cross County extension locations also have wireless access. In the
coming year we will continue to improve wireless access at the extension
sites and on the main campus.
