Message from Dr. Belinda S. Miles: Summer Reading Resource – July 21
July 21, 2017
Colleagues,
As we look ahead to another year of “Building Minds and Futures” by educating and serving our students, it is of interest to consider the knowledge and experiences they bring to campus as well as those they will cultivate during their time with us. This week’s article discusses the impact of insufficient civics preparation at K-12 levels on college level experiences. Our engagement with students in the classroom, during service encounters, and through every interaction has the potential to influence their civic orientation and participation. There are many opportunities to expand civic knowledge, awareness, and engagement through course assignments, co-curricular activities, professional workshops, and community events. I look forward to joining you in advancing understanding in this area as a crucial part of helping our students develop and succeed.
