Weekly Message from Dr. Belinda S. Miles – October 28, 2016
BIG NEWS: we received notification from the Laura and John Arnold Foundation of an extraordinary $1,000,000 award for Westchester Community College to replicate the CUNY Accelerated Study in Associate Programs study! This summer, a group of faculty, staff, and administrators developed a preliminary framework for adapting the ASAP model to our college, which was written into a grant proposal that was favorably reviewed by the funder. Thanks to all the team members from institutional advancement, academic affairs, business and finance, and others who came together to make this happen. We will reconvene soon to prepare for implementation.
The New York Association of Training and Empowerment awarded its NY Workforce Development award to Westchester Community College for our Just Add One program. Just Add One assists eligible small business owners to create strategies that strengthen their business models and operations for greater efficiency. The goal of the program is for participating business to become vibrant contributors of economic growth in the region by starting with adding at least one new employee. Congratulations!
The Radiologic Technology program won first place in its annual Radiologic Technology Bowl against other Rad Tech programs from across the state. We also placed third in a poster contest displaying “What’s Eating You” which describes assessment of gastrointestinal disorders. Our faculty and students have earned major kudos for this significant achievement.
All our collaborative efforts on our Middle States Monitoring Report will culminate with our MSCHE visit on October 31 to November 1, 2016. Our report showcases the tremendous growth we spearheaded since we received our initial recommendations. Thank you to all who participated in improving several of our strategic initiatives regarding assessment, student success, and enrollment management.
Thanks to all who ensured that our Fall Transfer Fair was a great success with more than 100 colleges providing transfer advice to our students. Appreciation also goes out to our faculty, staff and students who hosted Senator David Carlucci at our Ossining campus this week. Thanks also, to the wonderful women who joined me at the ACE Women’s Network event this afternoon.
Thanks for making it a great week!
