Message from Dr. Belinda S. Miles – October 9, 2015
Dear Colleagues,
Since last week’s inauguration, I have received many cards, letters, and emails profuse with praise for Westchester Community College, the occasion, and just about every aspect of the program. Some valued how the performances showcased the arts. Some appreciated getting to know the people who shaped my life and career. Some heard my five focus areas for the first time and wanted to express their support.
One consistent theme was high praise for the event execution, which was a remarkable week-long celebration of WCC. For that we owe special thanks to Heather Shank, her excellent co-chairs, Sean Simpson and Pat Hennessey, and all of the members of the planning committee. And thanks to each of you for making it a special day for me, my family, and WCC.
SALT—the Senior Administrative Leadership Team—met today for the first time in 2015-2016. I unveiled our new academic organization into four schools, which has morphed several times since I first presented the concept to faculty in August. I appreciate all of the thoughtful and constructive feedback provided directly to me or through conversations with Dr. Bradford. This broad input has resulted in a better organization of the initial idea, and it underscores the importance of inclusive dialogue to achieve better outcomes. I’m eager to hear continued thoughts about this and other happenings at the college.
Please join the effort this weekend and all of next week to get the word out to students, neighbors, and friends about our October start classes. This is a great way to extend access, help students complete electives, and make progress to degree completion.
Thanks for making it a great week.
Warm regards,
Dr. Belinda S. Miles
