Message from Dr. Belinda S. Miles: New Prospects & Praise – November 9, 2018
November 9, 2018
Colleagues,
This week I joined County Executive Latimer and others in a roundtable discussion on the growing biotech sector in Westchester County. Focus of the discussion included growing the region’s economy by capitalizing on high-tech, high-growth industries and the talent pipeline required to support new jobs created as a result. The college’s relevant touchpoints include degree pathways with work-based learning options and industry knowledge sharing among faculty and business partners. Attracting new businesses fuels innovation not only in the business community but also within our college environment. Thanks to the faculty and deans already considering new curriculum and applied learning options for our students.
In commemoration of Veteran’s Day and the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day, our student-veterans participated in a number of “Veterans Week” activities including a collaborative event with the County Veteran’s office for the “Flag of our Nation.” As part of their extracurricular activities, our student-veterans have worked with children with disabilities, veterans at the Montrose VA Hospital, and more. On Monday, all are invited to the Hall of Heroes in the Student Event Room (11 am to 12 noon) to view uniforms and equipment worn by our student-veterans before they became Vikings.
Congratulations to Rachele Hall, Associate Director of Student Involvement for Community Building and Co-Curricular Programs, for winning the Maureen McDermott/Michelle Delany Staff Programmer Award at the National Association of Campus Activities Northeast Regional Conference. This award honors an individual who best exemplifies outstanding achievement in the field of student affairs and recognizes Associate Director Hall for her work in the development of student leadership skills and her contributions to the field. Please join me in extending hearty and well-deserved congratulations to Rachele!
Winter session and spring 2019 registration is underway! Please encourage your students to register now and pay particular attention to those students who may be on track to complete their degree or certificate in May.
Dr. Belinda S. Miles
