Message from Dr. Belinda S. Miles – May 27, 2016
Westchester Community College, NYC Labor Market Information Service, JPMorgan Chase, and our community partners released the Middle-Skills Jobs in the Lower Hudson Valley report. It showcases high-growth career opportunities in health information management, technology support, and hospitality management that are available in our region today. These are great jobs that pay well, have career advancement opportunities, and typically require some post-secondary training and certification or an associate’s degree. These findings raise awareness around our own academic and workforce programs and help us identify existing and new business, education, and community partners for preparing students for these pathways. Media coverage of the report is getting the message out to the community. You can download a copy of the report from our website. Kudos to everyone in our Workforce Development and Community Education division who have been leading the production of this report the past several months at the invitation of JP Morgan Chase.
Technology services agency Campus Works spent several days learning all about our, IT, help desk functions, media services, administrative and academic computing, websites, and social media. Many of you met with a representative, which was extremely helpful. Thank you for taking time to provide input in this process. Initial advice from the group has been constructive—we are well positioned for updating and improving our systems and processes as we move from good to great. Campus Works will follow up with some additional information requests during the next few weeks. Please do as much as you can to facilitate a complete response. The final report, expected later this summer, will help us identify where we go next to advance campus technology and related processes.
Thanks for making it a great week.
