Message from Dr. Belinda S. Miles – June 30, 2015
I am very pleased to announce that we have received formal notification from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education that they have reaffirmed our accreditation at their session on June 25. The college is now accredited for the next ten years.
Together, as an institution, we will now commence working on the four areas of improvement cited by Middle States:
- Ensure clear lines of organization and authority and periodically assess the effectiveness of administrative structures and services.
- Develop a process for the assessment of institutional effectiveness with evidence that results are used in budgeting, planning and resource allocation.
- Formulate an enrollment management plan to enhance recruitment, retention, marketing and student success.
- Promote a culture of assessment including policies and structures to support the role of part- and full-time faculty in the use of student learning assessment results to improve teaching and learning.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the Cabinet, I would like to thank all of you who worked on the college’s Middle States report, especially the members of the Middle States Committee. We will regroup and begin to prepare for the required September 2016 monitoring report in which we will document the development, implementation and evidence of our progress in these four areas. A small Middle States team visit will follow the submission of the report next fall. Meanwhile, our next periodic review will not be due until June of 2020; this is a required additional report on our progress in achieving the goals listed above. We will not undertake another full self-study evaluation until 2024-2025.
Thanks again for the hard work you have done to achieve this status. Have a safe and pleasant holiday break.
Cheers!
Belinda S. Miles
