Message from Dr. Belinda S. Miles – February 26, 2016
I’ve started the clock on a 90-day period for developing a 2016-2017 plan that brings us together cohesively to achieve our shared goals. My thinking continues to take shape. Some specific areas we might explore include
- College values,
- Teaching and learning,
- Student success priorities,
- Coordinating efforts,
- Measurements of progress,
- And others.
The President’s Communication Council has discussed its role as one coordinating body for collecting input, especially on shared values. The council, comprised of the President’s Cabinet and the Faculty Senate Executive Committee, meets regularly to cultivate a collaborative work culture and share ideas on success initiatives. We will work on a method for collecting input and engage you in this process. In addition, I’ve been revisiting reports on First Year Experience, advising, and other key areas. We have so much great content already circulating. If you have a report I should read, please send it to me. I’m interested in initiatives derived from work and ideas from those working closely with students on a daily basis: our faculty and staff. Some recent research sheds more light on what works best for desired change: https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2016/02/25/achieving-dream-seeks-stronger-faculty-role-college-completion-agenda.
I look forward to our work together. Thanks for making it a great week.
Dr. Belinda S. Miles
President
